Fee Structure to Change at the Drumheller & District Regional Landfill

The Regional Landfill located in Drumheller, Alberta is operated and maintained by the Drumheller & District Solid Waste Management Association (DDSWMA). The organization consists of members from Wheatland County, Kneehill County, Starland County, the Town of Drumheller, the Town of Trochu, and the Villages of Acme, Beiseker, Carbon, Delia, Hussar, Linden, Morrin, Munson, Rockyford, and Standard. Servicing a population base of 28,865 people within a 100 km radius of Drumheller.

Executive Director of Operations, Tammi Nygaard advises that due to the increased costs associated with the operation of the facility; the reduction in disposal fees because of the downturn in the economy; and an outdated, antiquated fee structure the Drumheller & District Solid Waste Management Association has decided to implement a new minimum fee policy for wastes delivered to the Drumheller & District Regional Landfill. The existing fee structure has been in effect since the implementation of the weigh scale in 1992.
In an effort to introduce a more equitable fee structure for all members, effective April 2, 2018 the following disposal fees will apply;

  • Residential Waste from within the region between 1 -250 kgs will be charged a $5.00 minimum fee. Regional Residential Waste over 250 kgs will be charged $55.00 per metric tonne.
  • Construction/Demolition Material from within the region between 1 -250 kgs. will be charged a $10.00 minimum fee.
  • Regional Construction/Demolition Material over 250 kgs will be charged $57.50 per metric tonne.
  • The new fees will apply to all residents delivering waste to the Landfill from within the region, both rural and urban.

For further information on the new fee structure, residents are invited to contact 403-823-1345, Monday through Friday.
